17th Teesside Company
The 17th Teesside BB Company meets every Friday evening (except during school holidays) at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church, Cypress Rd, Marton, Middlesbrough TS7 8PD.
The company was formed in January 1974 with an incredible 108 boys attending the inaugural meeting! Its first captain was Norman Elley who was followed in 1985 by Ian Gordon. Colin Martin (who had joined the company as a boy at its first meeting in 1974) is the current captain having taking over in 1992.
The company does the full programme of badge work in all sections & has been successful in members obtaining Queen’s Badge on a regular basis. It has always been particularly active in outdoor expedition work, takes part in BB National level competitions, the annual Cleveland Hike & holds an annual summer camp. It also has a bugle & drum band which meets to practice at 8pm on Tuesday evenings.
The Company is split as follows:
Anchor Boys (School years 1-3) - meets Fridays between 6.15pm & 7.30pm & is led by Jonathan Etwell & Chris Batchelor
Junior Section (School years 4 – 6) - meets Fridays between 6.15pm & 7.30pm & is led by June Drummond
Company Section (School years 7 +) – meets Fridays between 7.30pm & 9.15 pm & is led by the company captain, Colin Martin
