THE BOYS' BRIGADE - TEESSIDE BATTALION
Welcome to the website of the Teesside Battalion of The Boys' Brigade.
The Boys' Brigade was founded by Sir William Alexander Smith on 4th October 1883 in Glasgow & was the world's first church based uniformed voluntary youth organisation. Smith founded BB to care for & challenge young people for life through a programme of informal education underpinned by Christian faith. That has continued to this day although methods have altered to suit changing times.
The 125th Anniversary of the founding of BB was celebrated by Teesside Battalion at a special service at Stockton Baptist Tabernacle on Sunday 12th Oct 2008 which was attended by over 600 members, past members & friends.
The BB caters for the following age groups:-
Anchor Boys- School years 1-3
Junior Section - School years 4-6
Company/Senior Section - School years 7+, up to age 18
All sections of each company have a varied programme of activities suitable for their age group & take part in a progressive award scheme. Activities include crafts, hobbies, games, physical activity, drum & bugle bands, hiking, camping & the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme & lots of fun! Despite the Boys Brigade name, girls are made welcome unless there is already a girl's organisation e.g. Girls Brigade, Guides etc at that church.
There are currently companies at the following places:
Norton - Norton Methodist Church - 11th Teesside
Stockton - Stockton Baptist Church - 16th Teesside
Marton - St Andrew's United Reformed Church - 17th Teesside
